In September 2019, 28.8 thousand cars left the conveyors of three St. Petersburg car factories - Hyundai / Kia, Nissan and Toyot - 15% less than a year earlier, Auto-Dealer-SPb reports. This is the second consecutive decline in production volumes this year, and also the strongest drop in one month since December 2016!

Mikhail Chaplygin, General Director of Auto-Dealer-SPb, believes that “a serious production cut in September is not only the effect of a high base a year ago, but also a reaction to the state of the Russian car market. For example, demand continues to decline for volume-generating models such as the KIRio and Hyundai Solaris.” In addition, Mikhail notes, in September, sales of ToyotRAV4 fell more than twice in September - this is due to the start of production of a new generation of the model in October.

At the same time, the number of cars produced in September is quite consistent with the volume of production throughout 2019: an average of 25-30 thousand cars roll off the conveyors of St. Petersburg car factories every month, analysts of Avto.ru note.

Despite the sharp drop, following the results of nine months, the enterprises managed to maintain positive dynamics: from January to September, 273.3 thousand cars were produced, which is 1% more than a year earlier. The share of the St. Petersburg car industry is 24.8% (plus 0.1 points). At the same time, the demand for new cars has intensified the fall: according to Avto.ru, over the same period 1,124,000 new cars were registered (minus 2.4%).

Only three models of St. Petersburg car plants were in the top 10 best-selling foreign cars in Russia in the first nine months of 2019: KiRio (69.3 thousand units, minus 7.6%), Hyundai Cret (52 thousand units, plus 4.6%) and Hyundai Solaris (45.3 thousand units, minus 10%).
