Video: Volvo XC40 Became A 408-horsepower Electric Car
Volvo has unveiled its first production electric vehicle. It is not a completely new model, but a modification of the XC40 compact crossover. The novelty received the Recharge prefix - later this name will be given to other electric cars and hybrids of the brand.
The Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge was equipped with the same stuffing as the Polestar 2 platform liftback. These are two electric motors (one on each axle) with a total capacity of 408 hp. (660 Nm) and a traction battery with a capacity of 78 kWh, located under the floor of the passenger compartment.
- The electric all-wheel drive XC40 takes 4.9 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h, and the top speed limiter is activated at 180 km / h - the same limit will be received by all Volvo models from 2020. The crossover can travel over 400 kilometers without recharging. When charging with direct current from a 150 kW station, the battery fills up to 80 percent in 40 minutes.
- Externally, the electric XC40 differs from other versions of the model with a plug instead of a radiator grill and a different bumper design. At the front, the crossover has an additional 30-liter trunk, but the volume of the main one has decreased from 460 to 413 liters.
Inside, the only difference is the digital dashboard and the new multimedia system - for the first time on a Volvo model, it runs on the Android platform. Multimedia is updated over the air and supports all major Google services, including the Google Assistant, Google Maps and the Google Play Store.
- Also, the electric XC40 will be the first model of the brand to be equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) modular system. This is an active security complex that includes many radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors. In the future, it is planned to create a full-fledged autopilot based on the system.
In Europe, sales of the Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge will start in 2020. The cost of the crossover will be announced later. The Swedish company promises to introduce a new electric car every year so that by 2040 it will completely eliminate the production of cars with gasoline and diesel engines.
