New Toyota Yaris Turned Out To Be Smaller, But More Spacious Than Its Predecessor

Toyot introduced the fourth generation Yaris hatchback. It was the first model built on the GA-B platform, the smallest chassis ever built on the TNGA architecture. Later, other models of the Japanese brand will receive it.

• Compared to its predecessor, the hatchback has become 5 millimeters shorter (3940 mm) and 40 mm lower (1500 mm), but the company claims that the interior has increased in size due to a 55 mm increase in the wheelbase (up to 2550 mm) and an increase 50 mm wide (1695 mm).
• Thanks to the new platform, the engineers managed to lower the center of mass by 15 mm and lighten the model by 50 kilograms (up to 950 kilograms). The suspension remains the same - MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent beam at the rear.
• At launch, the Yaris will only be available with a hybrid unit. Its power plant consists of a three-cylinder 1.5 gasoline engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. So far, only the characteristics of the electric motor are known - 80 hp. and 141 Nm and the fact that the total power will increase by 15 percent relative to the past 100-strong Yaris.
• A year after the start of sales, the hatchback will receive aspirated gasoline engines of 1.0 and 1.5 liters. They will be combined with "mechanics" or variator. These modifications will not be available in all markets.

• The equipment of the new Yaris includes LED optics, a central airbag that separates the driver and passenger, an automatic braking system, a 10-inch head-up display, wireless charging for smartphones, a panoramic roof, a JBL audio system and interior ambient lighting.

Alive, the new model will be presented at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 23rd. In Japan, the fourth generation Yaris, which no longer carries the Vitz name in the home market, will go on sale in February 2020.
