Video: Volvo's First Electric Crossover To Become The World's Safest Car

Volvo has announced that the brand's first mass-produced electric vehicle will be the XC40 compact crossover. For the construction of an electric version, the model has a significantly modified design. According to the creators, this electric car can be called one of the safest cars that will be found on the road.

-
The high passive safety of the electric Volvo XC40 is ensured by a special frame made of extruded aluminum, inside which there is a battery that takes up almost the entire space under the floor of the passenger compartment. It also lowers the vehicle's center of gravity and reduces the risk of rollover.
- The front and rear parts of the electric vehicle body frame are additionally reinforced. They have integrated two electric motors that rotate both axles. This should improve the distribution of the load on the body structure in a collision.
- The electric XC40 will also be the first model of the brand to be equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a modular system that includes many radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors. In the future, it is planned to create a full-fledged autopilot on its basis.
World premiere of Volvo XC40 with electric powertrain October 16, 2019… Until this date, the company has promised to provide additional details about the new crossover.
