Americans Think Electric Cars Should Be Fueled With Gas

Ford conducted a survey of US residents about knowledge of the principles of electric cars. It turned out that Americans are little aware of them: 42 percent of respondents said that electric cars need gas to work.

• The authors of the study believe that the reason for the misconception lies in the fact that drivers do not see the visual process of charging electric cars with energy, and therefore do not understand what fuel is needed for such cars.
• 80 percent of electric vehicle owners surveyed said they do not use public charging stations, preferring to charge their cars at home or work. This also affects the level of general awareness of electric cars.
• Americans also have prejudices about the characteristics of electric vehicles: 67 percent of respondents do not believe that such vehicles are adapted for towing goods, 80 percent of a hundred would refuse them in difficult weather conditions, and 65 percent would not go on an electric car off-road.

Ford is now preparing at least two all-electric models for serial production - a Mustang-style crossover and an F-150 pickup. The company also plans to conduct educational work among potential buyers of battery-powered cars.
