Mercedes-Benz Reimagines 118-year-old Car

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Vision Mercedes Simplex concept car, which is a modern interpretation of the 1901 Mercedes 35 PS. The novelty was shown at the Design Essentials 2019 event held in Nice.

• Like the historic car, the Vision Mercedes Simplex is an open roadster with a two-tone body and open wheels. Instead of a radiator grill, there is a three-dimensional display framed in rose gold. The straps that hold the hood and the rear bag are made of leather. Stylized Mercedes stars are scattered throughout the concept - they can even be found on the tire treads.

• According to the creators, the design of the two-seater interior is inspired by yachts and motorcycles. An invisible display is installed on the central panel - only the information that the driver needs at a particular moment is displayed through the white surface. The watch is highlighted with a rose gold bezel.
• About the technical characteristics of the Vision Mercedes Simplex, the authors of the project say only that it uses "alternative types of energy".

The 1901 Mercedes 35 PS was one of the first cars in history to be built with a traditional layout and controls for today's cars. It was powered by a 35 horsepower 5.9-liter inline-four and won the 1901 Nice-La Turbie race.
