The Frankfurt Motor Show marks the debut of the concept BMW i Hydrogen NEXT. New Fuel Cell Powertrain Developed in Collaboration with Toyot to Showcase Future Zero CO2 Models2.

The concept is based on the X5 crossover. The Bavarian manufacturer did not reveal the powertrain characteristics of the i Hydrogen NEXT concept, mentioning only a four-minute refueling process and a long range. BMW and Toyot have been collaborating on fuel cell units since 2013.
- In 2015, several prototypes of the 5-Series GT with similar units were added to the park of the research center, and in January 2017 the global Hydrogen Council was created, which included 11 more energy, transport and industrial companies.
- At the presentation of i Hydrogen NEXT, it was announced that BMW is going to put the novelty into small-scale production in 2022, and by 2025 - to significantly expand production. The main market in the company is seen in China, although they are interested in stimulating the use of hydrogen cars and Europe and North America.
