The MEB platform provides for the installation of the main electric motor on the rear axle, that is, like the Beetle, the Volkswagen ID.3 is rear-wheel drive. It is also possible to install a second electric motor in front, but it has not yet been announced for the new item. The traction battery is integrated into the power structure of the body, and the cooling radiator, charger, electronic components and a conventional battery for powering the on-board network are located in the front, so there is no room for the front trunk.
- Now an electric motor with a capacity of 204 hp is announced for the Volkswagen ID.3. (310 Nm) and three types of traction battery - with a capacity of 45, 58 or 77 kWh. This gives a power reserve without recharging 330, 420 and 550 kilometers, respectively. For example, the longest-range version of the TeslModel 3 sedan with a 75 kWh battery is capable of driving 544 kilometers (all data is based on the WLTP flow rate measurement cycle). It is possible to charge the basic modification ID.3 from stations with a power of 7.2 kW with alternating current and 50 kW with constant current, and terminals up to 125 kW are available for the top-end version. The maximum speed is 160 km / h.
With dimensions comparable to the dimensions of the Volkswagen Golf (length - 4261 mm, width - 1809 mm, height - 1552 mm), the electric hatchback wheelbase (2765 mm) is close to the larger Passat (2791 mm), which implies spaciousness in the cabin. True, the ID.3 turned out to be quite heavy: the curb weight is 1719 kilograms. The volume of the trunk of the novelty is the same as that of the Golf - 380 liters.
- Inside, the ID.3's driving mode selector will be located on the right side of the digital instrument cluster, next to the free-standing multimedia system screen. The display of the entertainment complex can also be used to control the air conditioning system. The physical buttons remained only for the emergency gang and power windows - only touch panels are used on the steering wheel and in the light control unit. There is also a voice assistant, which is activated by the phrase "Hello, ID".
- The Volkswagen ID.3 equipment list includes wheels with a diameter of 18 to 20 inches, matrix headlights, adaptive cruise control, a keyless entry system, a projection screen, heated seats and steering wheel, a panoramic roof and a Beats audio system.
Serial production of the Volkswagen ID.3 will begin in Zwickau, Germany in November 2019. Hatchback sales in Europe will start in mid-2020 and by that time the plant should be producing 1,500 electric vehicles per day. The cost of the basic ID.3 modification will not exceed 30 thousand euros (2.17 million rubles). In total, the German concern will present 27 models based on the MEB platform by 2022, the annual production volume of which should reach a million copies.
