American Police Moved From Dodge Charger To Tesla

The Police Department of the city of Bargersville, located in the US state of Indiana, was the first in the world to receive a TeslModel 3 electric car, which will be used for patrolling. According to InsideEV’s, the electric car replaced the gasoline Dodge Charger.

• TeslModel 3 for police service was equipped with special signals in the bumpers, under the windshield and rear windows, as well as stickers on the sides, a loudspeaker, a walkie-talkie and a tablet with a police database.

• Law enforcement officers chose the Model 3 in the Standard Range Plus version for $ 41,945 (2.79 million rubles). That's more than Dodge asks for the base Charger ($ 33,612, or RUB 2.24 million). However, the department spends 7,200 dollars (479 thousand rubles) annually on fuel for a gasoline sedan, and electricity for Tesla for the same period will cost only 1,674 dollars (111 thousand rubles). Even the Bargersville police are confident that TeslModel 3 will save on maintenance.

  • The range of an electric car of 376 kilometers should be enough to patrol the city: the daily runs of other cars of the department do not exceed 200 kilometers.

  • In the near future, the Bargersville police intend to write off four more old Dodge Chargers, replacing them with Teslas. The money saved on fuel will be spent on expanding the number of employees.
