Nissan has released a report for the first quarter of fiscal 2019 (April-June): it shows the lowest results in the last ten years. At the same time, the company officially announced its intention to carry out massive staff reductions and cut the lineup.
- By March 31, 2023, Nissan will part with 12,500 employees at 14 factories around the world. Those enterprises with low efficiency indicators will fall under the cuts.
- As a result, the company will cut about nine percent of all jobs (138 thousand people).
- By the same date, Nissan will reduce production capacity by 10 percent, cut its lineup by at least the same 10 percent and focus on the most profitable models.
- Plans for the release of new models, including all-electric, will not be affected by this decision.
- According to the report, sales of Nissan cars from April to June 2019 decreased by 6 percent (to 1.23 million units), net profit fell by 94.5 percent (to $ 59 million), and production profitability was 0.1 percent - against four percent a year earlier.
The job cuts may also affect the Russian office of the company. Nissan has a research center near St. Petersburg and a plant with a capacity of 100 thousand cars per year, which produces the Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano crossovers. Last year, the enterprise produced 56,525 vehicles.
