Mercedes-Benz has begun road trials of the large electric vehicle EQS, which will compete with the TeslModel S and the Porsche Taycan. Photos of the camouflaged prototype were published by Autocar.

-
The proportions of the Mercedes-Benz EQS are reminiscent of the CLS sedan, and the headlights and grille are the electric crossover EQC. At the same time, the future new items, like the Model S and Taycan, have frameless windows, retractable door handles, and the trunk lid rises along with the glass.
- EQS will be built on the modular platform ME (Modular Electric Architecture). The liftback will receive an aluminum body, a battery with a capacity of about 90 kWh under the floor of the passenger compartment and two electric motors (one on each axle).
- It is expected that the electric car will be more powerful than the 408-horsepower EQC crossover, and the range on a single charge will be 400-500 kilometers. The Porsche Taycan, which will be presented in 2019, will have approximately the same performance, and Tesla will have a long-range range of at least 90 kilometers.
- The Mercedes-Benz EQS will go on sale in 2021. The production of the model will be set up in Sindelfingen, Germany, next to the S-class sedan.
