BMW, the official partner of the Formula E championship, presented a new safety car before the start of the stage in Monaco. It's an i8 hybrid roadster converted to a speedster.
- The BMW i8 Roadster has a radically shortened windshield, a massive front splitter, a large rear wing and a roll cage with special signals.
After the modifications, the center of gravity of the safety car dropped another 15 millimeters compared to the production car. Additionally, the BMW i8 is equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes from the M-package. The company claims that the novelty became the world's first safety car with an open body.
The hybrid power plant remained unchanged - it is a "turbo-engine" 1.5 with an electric motor with a total capacity of 374 hp. (570 Nm). The roadster accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km / h. In Russia, an open i8 costs at least 11,490,000 rubles.
