FC (Fiat, Chrysler) is curtailing sales of Fiat Fullback pickups in Europe, including Russia. This decision is caused by low demand for the model, as well as changes in European legislation.
- Fiat Fullback is based on Mitsubishi L200. The Japanese pickup truck is one of the sales leaders in its segment and Fullback could not compete with it.
- Already in the first quarter of 2019, Mitsubishi L200 sales in the Russian market were 10 times higher than Fiat Fullback sales.
- In the fall, Europe will move to stricter environmental standards, which will require the modernization of Fullback motors, and this is unprofitable.
Russian Fiat dealers will have enough stocks of Fullback until around the end of 2019. At the same time, it is now possible to find a new pickup in 2018 and even 2017. There will be no deliveries of new cars to us. Nevertheless, the production of the model at the plant in Thailand will continue: the countries of the Middle East and Africa remain the sales markets.
In the first quarter of 2019, only 49 new Fiat Fullbacks were registered with the traffic police, which is 11% less than in the first three months of 2018, although overall sales in the segment decreased by only 7%. Over the 12 months of last year, Fullback sales fell 35%, while overall pickup sales grew 11% over 2017.
