Euro NCAP Assessed The Safety Of New Range Rover And Citroen Crossovers

The European Committee Euro NCAP has published the results of the next series of crash tests, in which two crossovers took part: Range Rover Evoque and Citroen C5 Aircross.

During crash tests of the new Evoque, experts from the committee noted the risk of injury to the neck of the rear passenger in a rear impact. In other disciplines, the crossover performed with dignity and received the highest possible rating - five stars, gaining 36 out of 38 points. This is the best result among all current Jaguar and Land Rover models.

French crossover earned 33.4 points, which were only enough for four stars. The main problem is the high risk of injury to the driver's right lower leg in a collision with a deformable obstacle, as well as high loads on the passenger's head in the event of a frontal impact on a concrete cube. With a side impact on a pole, the experts had complaints about the driver's level of chest protection. And for pedestrians, the greatest danger is posed by traumatic side racks of the car.

In addition to the base Citroen C5 Aircross, a crossover was also tested with the optional Safety + package, which includes emergency braking and cyclist detection systems. This modification received a maximum of five stars (and a rating in 34.1 points) due to the effective operation of active safety systems, for which additional points are awarded.

Both crossovers will appear in Russia in 2019 - the start of Range Rover Evoque sales is scheduled for the second half of April, and the Citroen C5 Aircross will arrive at dealerships by the end of spring.
