In the state of Michigan, from the parking lot of the abandoned Pontiac Silverdome stadium, where Volkswagen and Audi bought during the diesel scandal were kept, they hijacked 61 cars.
The cars were stored there for a long time, and they were stolen gradually: according to the investigation, the thieves worked from March to September 2017. The stolen cars were hidden, 46 of them were taken out of the state, and one was even taken out of the country. The hijackers managed to sell some of the cars.
The criminals have already been detained, there were two of them. Now, for theft by prior agreement, they face up to ten years in prison and up to $ 250,000 in fines.
The Volkswagen concern, convicted of falsifying data on the toxicity of diesel engine exhaust, was forced by the decision of the American authorities to buy out already sold cars with "heavy fuel" engines. There were so many of them that the company had to rent several large parking lots in different states in order to store all these cars somewhere. Just look at what one of these parking lots looks like in California.
