The software development alliance, led by Huawei, has begun testing a backbone capable of communicating with cars. According to Bloomberg, tests are being carried out on a purpose-built four-kilometer section in Jiangsu province.
- The test highway is equipped with a whole complex of sensors, radars, sensors and cameras that collect information about the traffic situation, process it and forward the received data to the vehicle's on-board electronics.
- The road is being tested using a special drone called the X-Bus. Huawei's leadership believes that smart highways will provide greater support for the development of autonomous traffic in the future, since a drone capable of exchanging data with infrastructure facilities will be much safer.
- At the same time, X-Bus can also transmit information to the ecosystem of the "smart road" and even give it commands - for example, adjust the traffic lights mode if the bus is moving on schedule and does not have time to reach the finish point in time.
- It is not specified when exactly the tests of the "smart highway" will be completed and the alliance will move on to implement the technology in real life.
- Attention to the "new mobility" industry is now being shown by many companies previously not directly related to the automotive industry. For example, Sony brought its electric car to road tests, Apple plans to create its own transport in partnership with Hyundai, and one of the latest Chinese innovations among electric vehicles was born thanks to the support of the Internet giant Alibaba.
