The Supreme Court of Russia has clarified the concept of “falsification of a vehicle registration number”. Any distortion, due to which the characters on the number can be misread, falls under it. Writes about this TASS.
- According to the highest court, the distortions include, among other things, changes made "by extrusion, mechanical removal of the symbol, erasure, touch-up". It is not specified whether the distortions mean glued leaves, hanged rags and other tricks of motorists to make the license plate illegible. The Supreme Court added that the use of a knowingly forged state registration plate also includes the installation of a sign “manufactured in accordance with the established procedure, but different from the one entered in the registration documents of this vehicle”.
- The sanction for fake numbers is strict and is already provided for by the Criminal Code, not the Administrative Code. Article 326 of the Criminal Code promises a fine of up to 80 thousand rubles, correctional labor for up to one year, imprisonment for up to two years, or forced labor for the same period.
Earlier it was reported than the drivers are threatened with non-payment of traffic fines. For this, there are sanctions such as paying a double fine, compulsory work, administrative arrest, and a ban on traveling abroad.
