Mercedes-Benz may return a luxury minivan to the line-up by 2025 - previously such a model was called the R-class. As Car Magazine clarifies, the novelty, now known as the GLR, may turn out to be the most powerful electric vehicle in the company's history.

  • The seven-seater novelty will be built on a platform common to the entire electric direction of Mercedes-Benz, however, it will be equipped with a unique power plant. It is planned to include three 250-kilowatt electric motors, which can collectively develop up to 1020 hp. and 1350 Nm. One of the engines will rotate the front wheels, the other two - along one of the rear axle wheels. At the same time, it is planned to use a two-speed gearbox in their drive, similar to that used by Porsche in the design of the Taycan.

  • According to the publication, the newest liquid-cooled graphene batteries with a peak capacity of 125 kWh will debut at the Mercedes-Benz GLR. They are designed for fast charging from 350 kilowatt devices. The power reserve of the minivan on one charge has not yet been disclosed.
  • The novelty may enter the market in five years, but given the current nomenclature of the company's electrical division, before the start of sales, the minivan designation will most likely change from GLR to EQR.
  • Next year, the EQ lineup should be replenished with two models at once - the compact SUV EQ and the flagship EQS liftback. Recently, the company published an official video about testing both models. And in 2022, the most expensive electric crossover of the company with the same designation will join the liftback.
