Video: The New Land Rover Defender Will Have An Available Version With A Mono Drive

Land Rover is preparing an affordable SUV based on the current generation of Defender to enter the market, WhatCar reports. For the sake of reducing the cost, the SUV will be made more compact, deprived of all-wheel drive and equipped with a three-cylinder engine.

- The exterior of the future novelty will be made in the same style as the exterior of the current Defender, but at the same time it will be greatly simplified. The crossover will receive an ascetic interior and less space in the cabin.

The bulk of sales should fall on the most budgetary modification, which will have front-wheel drive and a 1.5-liter engine (now the most compact motors that Defender is equipped with have a two-liter volume). However, the publication does not exclude that in the future, the mini-Defender will still acquire all-wheel drive, and the engine range will be replenished with a hybrid power plant.
- It is assumed that for the new model will come up with a name that has not previously been found in the Defender line. Perhaps, Land Rover will act with Defender by analogy with the Discovery family, which, in addition to the SUV itself, also includes the Discovery Sport crossover. The main competitors of the so far unnamed new items are the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Volvo XC40.
- The publication claims that the novelty will become almost twice as affordable as the current Defender: in the UK, its base price is 42,920 pounds (55.4 thousand dollars or 4.4 million rubles), and the crossover will enter the market at a price of 25 thousand pounds. It will happen in 2022.
- In Russia, Land Rover Defender is estimated at a minimum of 4,060,000 rubles.

The revived Ford Bronco turned into a model family immediately after the premiere. In addition to a full-fledged SUV, Ford also introduced a crossover called the Bronco Sport. And in the future, a hardcore modification, which is expected to be called the Bronco Warthog, may join the sub-brand's lineup.
