The Russian car registration system from November 1 switched to electronic versions of vehicle passports - and this will affect even cars produced in countries where paper documents are still valid, RIA writes. We are talking about cars from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

  • By a special decision of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the full transition to electronic PTS in these countries was postponed until March 31, 2021. However, in Russia, their cars will be registered only if they have electronic PTS.
  • For example, a number of new models of the Chinese brand JAC will be supplied from Kazakhstan to Russia: it is planned to launch the production of the J7 liftback and the S7 crossover at the SaryarkaAvtoProm enterprise. In Belarus, at the BelGi plant, some models of the Geely brand are assembled - it is expected that the newest Tugell cross-coupe will be delivered to our country from there.
  • Electronic PTS, to which Russia switched from November 1, are a kind of "cells" in the national database - they can include information not only about the characteristics and owners of a particular car, but also information that was not previously recorded in the PTS. For example, in the future, EPTS will include data on accidents and repairs, restrictions on registration, loans and even work in a taxi.

  • To register a new car in the traffic police, a paper version of the PTS is no longer needed: the department will receive all the necessary information from the database, and the car owner will have fewer documents on hand. At the same time, paper PTSs issued for cars earlier will continue to operate. You can replace them with electronic versions if you wish.
