The founder and CEO of SSC North America, which built the Tuatara hypercar, posted a video message about the model's speed record controversy. The result raised doubts due to the peculiarities of the race and inaccuracies in the video. Jarod Shelby admitted that there are questions about the record, and promised to hold another race.
- The company released a new world speed record on October 19. After two runs in opposite directions, the Tuatar's average speed was 508.73 km / h. This is 18 km / h faster than the previous record of the Bugatti Chiron, and the French brand's hypercar traveled only in one direction (Tuatar was accelerated to 532.93 km / h in the second race).
- Doubts among many who watched the video arose for a number of reasons. The video was analyzed in the most detail by a blogger, who pointed out the discrepancy between the speed of the car and the one that is necessary to overcome this distance. SSC later retorted by claiming that the actual speed of Tuatar was confirmed by GPS device manufacturer Dewetron, whose equipment was used in the race.
-
However, this company later denied the information - its employees were not present at the tests and did not participate in the preparation. And, since the data is largely based on correct calibration of the equipment, Dewetron cannot guarantee its accuracy.
- The SSC admitted that the video about the record hypercar race raises doubts. The company explained this by the confusion in the editing - allegedly two different videos were accidentally included in the video.
- In a video message, Shelby promised to re-run in such a way that there could be no doubts: according to all the rules and using several different GPS devices. He also invited bloggers to test, but the date has not yet been named.
