Aston Martin has announced an expansion of its partnership with the German company Mercedes-Benz, within which it will be able to install hybrid and electric power plants from Stuttgart on its cars. In return, the British intend to transfer part of their shares to Mercedes-Benz.

  • According to the terms of the agreement, the exchange will take place in stages over three years with the help of the so-called "technological packages" formed by both parties. Aston Martin requests access to certain technologies, Mercedes-Benz evaluates partners' requests and sets counter conditions - how many shares the company would like to receive in return.
  • As Carscoops clarifies, the terms of the first exchange have already been agreed. The "technology package" is estimated at 140 million pounds (182 million dollars or 13.9 billion rubles), and Mercedes-Benz will increase its stake in Aston Martin to 11.8%. What technologies are included in the first package is not specified, although the current head of Aston Martin Lawrence Stroll noted that we are talking about electric and hybrid units.
  • The British brand will not be completely under the control of Stuttgart under this agreement: Mercedes-Benz will be able to increase its stake only up to 20%. In general, the shares that will go to the Germans are estimated at 286 million pounds.

  • Perhaps the expansion of cooperation between the two companies was the result of recent personnel changes. In May, former Aston Martin chief Andy Palmer was fired, and from August 1, Tobias Moers, who previously headed the Mercedes-AMG division, took over the position. Mercedes-AMG has been supplying the British with turbocharged petrol engines since 2013.
