The new generation hatchback is not threatened with full electrification, according to Autoevolution, which has published new spy shots of the Peugeot 308 prototype. The novelty will hit the market in 2021 and will be equipped with both hybrid installations and traditional internal combustion engines.

  • The prototype is equipped with a clearly visible radiator grille, not hidden under the camouflage. According to the publication, this indicates the use of the usual internal combustion engine on the test car. However, decals on the rear windows of the hatch hint at its hybrid nature. Under the camouflage, one can also distinguish the vertical running lights on the front bumper, which have become one of the hallmarks of the new Peugeot corporate identity.

  • The next generation 308 will receive one of two electrified units already offered for the company's other models. For example, the Peugeot 3008 crossover is equipped with two hybrid drive options - a 300-horsepower three-engine with an additional electric motor on the rear axle and a 225 hp installation, in which the electric motor and internal combustion engine rotate only the front wheels.
  • The publication suggests that the all-electric modification, which was previously reported, will not be available for the Peugeot 308. The fact is that it is being built on the basis of the EMP2 platform, which structurally does not imply a complete rejection of the internal combustion engine. And Peugeot will start producing serial electric cars based on the new eVMP architecture later than the new generation 308 will be released - in 2023.
