For 9 months of 2020, a little more than 1 million new passenger cars appeared in Russia - 9.9% less than last year. We compiled a rating of models that were most popular among residents of the five largest cities in the country. The cities are arranged in descending order of the number of inhabitants.

Moscow

The capital's bestsellers are Volkswagen Polo and KiRio, but the demand for them has failed quite strongly: Polo is registered 42% less (this is an anti-rating record) than a year ago - 6.1 thousand units, and Rio - less by 21%, 6 thousand units … Their leadership is partly due to the increased demand for these models in taxis and car sharing. Following them is Hyundai Cret (5.5 thousand units, minus 6.6%).

The fourth place was taken by the Nissan Qashqai - the only model in the top 10 of Moscow, which came out in plus: an increase of 10%, 4.9 thousand crossovers. Volkswagen Tiguan closes the top five (4.1 thousand units, minus 9.4%).

Places from sixth to tenth were distributed as follows: SkodOctavi (3.8 thousand units, minus 30.4%), Hyundai Solaris (3.5 thousand units, minus 38.5%), ToyotCamry (3.3 thousand units). units, minus 29.7%), SkodRapid (3.1 thousand units, minus 26%) and Nissan X-Trail (3 thousand units, minus 9.6%).

In just 9 months, 135.6 thousand new cars were registered in the capital, which is 20% less than in the same period last year.

St. Petersburg

In the northern capital, there is a rather tight fight in the top three. Bestseller - VW Polo: 3.1 thousand people chose it (plus 4.4%). The second and third places are for Hyundai Cret (3 thousand units, plus 8.8% - the best growth) and KiRio (2.7 thousand units, minus 9.7%), respectively.

Further, Hyundai Solaris (2.1 thousand units, minus 26.4%) and VW Tiguan (2.1 thousand units, minus 10.8%) follow with a noticeable lag.

LadVest (1.9 thousand units, minus 18.5%), SkodRapid, which, thanks to good sales of a new generation model, almost reached zero (1.7 thousand units, minus 1, 8%), Mitsubishi Outlander (1.7 thousand units, minus 26.5% - the strongest drop), LadLargus (1.4 thousand units, minus 18%) and KiSportage (1.4 thousand units., minus 7.7%).

In total, 60.3 thousand cars were registered in the city. The lag from last year's result is 11.7%.

Novosibirsk

In the center of Siberia, KiRio is in the greatest demand: in 9 months they were chosen by almost 800 people (plus 0.1%). The second and third places are occupied by two Hyundai models: Cret (655 units, plus 21.1%) and Solaris (515 units, minus 3.4%).

The top 5 also includes a pair of Lada: Vest (372 units, plus 23.2%) and Grant (303 units, minus 18.3% - the strongest drop).

Two VWs remained in the second half of the ranking - Polo (273 units, plus 1.1%) and Tiguan (253 units, plus 31.1% - a record growth), SkodRapid (215 units, minus 12.2%), Renault Logan (201 units, plus 1%) and unexpectedly… UAZ Patriot (173 units, plus 21.8%).

In total, there are 8.4 thousand new cars in Novosibirsk in 2020, which is 3.1% less than from January to September 2019.

Yekaterinburg

With a significant advantage over its competitors, Lada Vesta became the most popular car in Yekaterinburg: more than a thousand units were registered (minus 2.8%) - 19% more than Hyundai Cret (852 units, plus 34.8% - the maximum increase). Third place - for the budgetary family of Grant (833 units, minus 3.6%).

VW Polo and KiRio were less popular here: 809 units, plus 26.4% and 777 units, plus 2.1%, respectively.

In addition, Hyundai Solaris (509 units, plus 5.6%), VW Tiguan (482 units, plus 5.2%), the passenger version of LadLargus (447 units, minus 16.3%) are in demand in Yekaterinburg - an anti-record), ToyotRAV4 (392 units, plus 2.9%) and SkodRapid (382 units, minus 5%).

The demand for new cars in the capital of the Urals sank by 3%: 14.7 thousand cars were registered.

Nizhny Novgorod

When choosing a car, Nizhny Novgorod residents most often preferred KiRio (911 units, plus 7.1%), Hyundai Cret (764 units, plus 33.3% - the strongest growth) and LadVest (637 units, minus 5.5%).

LadGrant is slightly less popular (633 units, minus 5.8%), and VW Polo closes the top five with a significant lag (480 units, plus 17.9%).

Also in Nizhny Novgorod they like KiSportage (351 units, minus 21.7% - an anti-record), VW Tiguan (344 units, minus 13.1%), Hyundai Solaris (333 units, plus 6.7%), LadLargus (322 units, plus 2.2%) and SkodRapid (302 units, plus 20.8%).

Among the five largest cities, the car market of Nizhny Novgorod for the first nine months sank less than others: by 2.5%, 11.2 thousand new cars were registered.
