Although, judging by the predatory and unkind smile on the renewed face, Solaris is not going to give up. And very much even intends to make war.

While designing the source code called Hyundai Accent / Verna, Koreans hardly had in mind that the car was going to become the star of Russian taxi fleets. That's right, and in the end it doesn't bother anyone.








Technique and reliability
For us, it is Solaris of the second generation, and for the whole world - Accent is already in the fifth generation. Built on the latest version of the so-called Korean platform B - here it bears the GB designation, but ideologically does not differ from all the previous ones: in front of the McPherson strut, in the back there is a twisting beam, the same as that of the Elantra. The body structure consists of more than half of ultra-high-strength steel grades, all elements are galvanized.
In foreign markets, you can find Solaris-Accents-Vernes with liter turbo engines, variators and even robotic transmissions, but the Russian line is extremely conservative, and restyling has not brought any changes to the technique at all. There are two naturally aspirated engines to choose from: a 1.4-liter 100 horsepower or a more powerful 123-horsepower 1.6-liter unit. Both engines can be obtained with both "mechanics" and "automatic" - six gears both there and there.

All this works for a long time, reliably and without any problems - which is logical, otherwise Korean state employees will not see such circulations. The most serious sore - and that was quietly eliminated at the end of last year, before the release of the updated version. We are talking about a quickly clogged catalyst on the 1.6 engine, which can collapse, get into the cylinders with ceramic chips and lead to the formation of scoring on their walls. So, the catalysts are now different, and the control electronics have been reconfigured so that even with bad fuel misfire does not happen.
All other problems cannot be called large or massive, and many of them are associated with operating conditions. A brisk ride on bad roads may not withstand the front hub bearings and steering tips, and too neat owners, on the contrary, risk harming the rear brake calipers: if you always stop smoothly and gently, there is a risk that they will be bitten at some point. In addition, windshields do not differ in vitality, and on-board electrics and electronics can periodically throw out unexpected, but not fatal tricks.




Riding
Years of upbringing on Russian roads instilled in Solaris, if not impeccable, but very correct and balanced character, which did not change at all after restyling.
The duet of the 123-horsepower engine and the "automatic" is still vigorous: in the city traffic such a Solaris feels excellent and even allows it to be nimble to a certain extent - for all its "10.5 to a hundred". Yes, in the "throttle to the floor" mode, the engine sounds loud and strained. Yes, the gearbox doesn't care too much about the softness of the shifting, sometimes allowing itself tangible jerks. But in the end, everything works harmoniously: rude, slightly uncouth, but honest and predictable. And a special thank you that there are still no "eco-friendly" settings with a thrust to higher gears, as in Volkswagen and Skoda. Moreover, the fuel consumption in the combined cycle is quite realistic to put in 6.5-7 liters per hundred.

The suspension works in the same way: it is quite plump, but with a commendable margin of safety, allowing you not to worry too much on bumpy roads. Solaris copes well with medium and large irregularities, confidently holds the high-speed line, and only pits and joints with sharp edges are unpleasant to him - the sedan reacts to them loudly and nervously. And on good asphalt, noticeable background itching attracts attention, but here the question is complex: a loud rumble of tires is added to the little things on the road (the new fender liner material did not improve the unimportant "noise"), and in traffic jams, subtle vibrations also run from the transmission side. But you can live.

And even burn a little: the Solaris drives through turns, confidently and unambiguously. He listens well to the optimal steering effort, clearly writes the trajectory, and as for deep rolls in the photographs, we deliberately burst into turns "on our ears." And not the least role in such distortions was played by the drift of puffy 15-inch tires with a 65% profile. Another question is that the excitement in the manners of Solaris cannot be found: he does everything right, but without a spark, and he does not give in to provocations.

On the other hand, it would be unfair to demand more from a budget sedan. And yes, a million - now we have such a budget price list. At least argue, at least cry, at least write letters to Sportloto.
Equipment
It is clear that the cheapest Solaris has not yet reached this mark: after restyling, the starting equipment Active has risen in price by a humane 11 thousand and costs 775,000 rubles … As before, this version is perfect for those wishing to practice their asceticism. Only a 100-horsepower engine, only "mechanics", no air conditioner and audio system, 15-inch stampings, manual mirrors - in general, thanks for having no "oars" in the front.









Life begins further, with the picking Active Plus costing at least 856,000 rubles … By the way, for simplicity of calculations: for the 1.6 engine in all versions you have to pay 25 thousand, and for the "automatic" - forty. So, not a nominal, but a real "input" configuration of Solaris can offer an air conditioner, a radio with USB and Bluetooth, electric mirrors, heated front seats, a multifunction steering wheel and rear electric windows.
For those who want more, there is a middle version. Comfort at a cost from 901 to 966 thousand rubles … The steering wheel is already trimmed with leather, and in addition, it is heated and adjustable for departure. The center console flaunts the same eight-inch display, the dashboard looks exactly like in our photos, and in addition, Solaris has cruise control with a useful speed limit function.

With optional packages, you can buy diode headlights, heated windshield, climate control, rear parking sensors, a USB port on the second row, side airbags and curtain airbags, a light sensor and alloy wheels: everything together will run as much as 135 thousand, although without diodes and pillows you can keep within 45. And keep in mind that all this is available only for 1.6-liter Solaris: it is assumed that if the client regretted 25 thousand for the engine, then the rest will not be spent.
And with the top version Elegance, as in our test, things are even simpler: the junior motor is not available for her at all. So either 1.6 on the "mechanics" for 1,031,000 rubles, or it is the same, only with the "automatic" everything for the same 40 thousand more. From the good: climate control, a full package of heating and parking sensors, diode headlights, an extended chrome package, disc brakes in the back (yes, the rest have drums), alloy wheels, a USB port on the second row and the same eyeglass case.

Good, but for a surcharge - optional packages. Safety for 70 thousand rubles includes side airbags and curtain airbags, navigation, a rear-view camera and 16-inch wheels. The same thing, only with the Yandex. Avto system, will cost 10 thousand more. Prestige for 43 thousand means keyless entry, heated rear seats, contactless opening of the trunk, remote engine start and - again - a rear-view camera.
And there is also a separate item in the price list that combines the Safety and Prestige packages. Probably, he is there for a reason - some kind of wholesale discount is meant, right? Well, hold your breath: if you simultaneously order sets for 43 and 70 thousand rubles, then you will need to pay for them … exactly 113 thousand! What is this if not the savage grin of capitalism?
