Video: Cheap Volkswagen Crossover For Russia: Four-wheel Drive And Two Motors

Volkswagen has shared the first details about a crossover called Taos for Russia. It will take a position in the Russian line one step lower than the current Tiguan, will receive two types of engines and an all-wheel drive system, as well as three equipment options. Apparently, VW Taos will be assembled on the territory of the Russian Federation, although a specific date for the start of sales has not yet been named.

As far as can be judged from the published photos, the Volkswagen Taos, already on sale in North America, was adapted for the Russian market. However, he will arrive in Russia in a more compact version in order to exclude competition with Tiguan. In length, the domestic version of Taos will stretch by 4417 millimeters, and the width and height of the crossover will be 1841 and 1602 millimeters, respectively. Thus, the new product is 92 millimeters shorter than the current VW Tiguan and 35 millimeters longer than the SkodKaroq sold in Russia.
- The manufacturer calls the main accents of the appearance of the crossover a relief hood and an unusual front bumper with a silver lining, a light strip connecting the running lights and rims up to 18 inches. The main attraction of the interior will be a kind of fundamentally new media system with a 10-inch screen and an interface similar to the control mechanics of smartphones. Perhaps we are talking about the new VW Play media system, which is equipped with Latin American Volkswagen SUVs, or about the newest MIB 3, which is used in other markets.

At the same time, the engine range for VW Taos will consist of engines well known in Russia. The basic version of the off-road vehicle is planned to be equipped with a 110-horsepower "atmospheric" paired with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a six-speed "automatic", and more expensive versions will receive a 150-horsepower "turbo four". There will be two transmissions for this motor: front-wheel-drive crossovers will be equipped with an 8-band “automatic”, and versions with all-wheel drive will have a seven-speed gearbox.
- Three standard trim levels for the SUV will be assembled - Respect, Status and Exclusive, but at the time of the start of sales (its date has not yet been announced), VW Taos will also have a special version of Joy with a set of bright colors for the body and orange accents in the interior. In general, the list of crossover equipment is planned to include, for example, adaptive optics, dual-zone climate control, rain and light sensors, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and a set of driver's assistants.
- Volkswagen promises to notify about the start of production and prices for the SUV later.
