Porsche Patented Supercar With Doors Like McLaren

Porsche has filed with the European Union patent authorities for registration of the design rights for a certain supercar with an unusual solution of doors and a tailgate of the engine compartment. As The Drive clarifies, this may indicate the firm's intention to release a serial version of the spectacular 2016 concept, which was only recently declassified.

• The patent sketches clearly show the butterfly wing doors, best known from the McLaren range, as well as the engine compartment hood. These design cues make the mysterious, patented supercar akin to the Le Mans Living Legends concept that Porsche unveiled last November. The prototype, developed about five years ago, has not received serial incarnation.

• At the same time, the patented machine has a number of minor stylistic differences. For example, her air intake grilles are applied on both sides of the body, while on the 2016 concept such an element was present only on the right.
• The application, according to the newspaper, was submitted quite recently - on February 2. There is no concrete confirmation of Porsche's intentions to bring the prototype to the production stage yet. However, The Drive suggests that the very fact of the application may indicate plans to release a very limited batch of sports cars on the Cayman / Boxster platform. In addition, on the basis of this patent, Porsche was suspected of developing a fundamentally new engine - an eight-cylinder "boxer".

• The company declassified the Porsche Le Mans Living Legends concept as part of a large-scale archive disclosure campaign called Porsche Unseen. In the course of this action, the company shared images and data about a dozen previously unseen prototypes. Among them were quite exotic - for example, an electric minivan and a supercar with a rocker.
