Apple may try to negotiate an autonomous electric vehicle with Nissan, Honda, the new Stellantis or even BMW. This was stated by market analysts interviewed by CNN. However, in their opinion, this project is not about a full-fledged partnership, but rather about contract manufacturing.

  • Industry experts argue that Apple is looking for opportunities to partner with a company with advanced manufacturing facilities - it is cheaper than building one yourself. However, in their opinion, the IT giant is not ready to share its own developments in the field of electric mobility and autonomous control systems with potential partners.
  • Therefore, a number of large manufacturers, especially those developing in the same direction, will not agree to deliberately unfavorable cooperation or, following the example of Hyundai-Kia, will refuse to turn into a “production appendage” of Apple. Nevertheless, smaller companies such as Hond and Nissan may agree to this. In turn, premium brands like BMW have a chance to become more loyal to Apple simply for the very fact of participating in a high-profile project.
  • Magna is considered one of the most likely participants in this partnership. It is not an independent manufacturer, but assembles cars for a number of brands, including Mercedes-Benz, Toyot and Jaguar. The contract with Magn will allow Apple to avoid claims for its own smart products. It is noteworthy that according to Autoevolution, Magn has already entered into an agreement with one of the young manufacturers of electric cars: from 2022, the company will assemble the Fisker Ocean electric crossover at its facilities.

    • The Hyundai-Kia alliance, which was previously credited with the role of assembling Apple's future electric car, a few days ago announced that there were no such plans.
