Auto.ru analysts have studied the ads for the sale of used cars, which were posted on the classified in the first half of 2020, and selected the 18 most popular cars in six price categories. And at the same time we looked at which generation and which modification of a particular model were in greatest demand.
For the study, we took the number of views of phone numbers of sellers in ads.
Three models - Hyundai Solaris, KiRio and ToyotLand Cruiser - hit the top 3 in several price segments at once. In the case of the "Koreans", this is due to the change of generations: the cars are cheaper than half a million rubles - the previous generation, and everything that is more expensive - the current family.
The flagship Japanese SUV took first place in two categories due to a wide range of trim levels: the price difference can reach up to a million rubles. At the same time, the popular combination "motor-transmission" is the same regardless of the configuration: a diesel 4.5-liter engine, 249 hp, a six-speed "automatic" and four-wheel drive.
The smallest difference is in the most budget cars. Their buyers pay not so much attention to equipment as to the condition of the car as a whole and its price.
In the middle price segment, users often choose mid-range or top-end modifications, and the generation of the model, first of all, depends on the budget. Another important factor influencing the choice of buyers is the number of offers on the market.
For example, Hyundai Solaris of the second generation with a 1.6-liter engine is so far on sale noticeably less often than with a basic 100-horsepower engine. This led to the fact that it was the weaker version that was in the rating, although the soplatform KiRio is more often chosen with a top motor.
Expensive cars are often preferred with "pre-tax" engines running on diesel fuel: their maintenance is much cheaper. Nevertheless, when it comes to premium cars, saving is not always a priority for buyers - this is evidenced by the low difference between interest in popular modifications and in the model as a whole in the segment of cars with a price of more than three million rubles. A rich set of options may be more important than an "economical" modification.
